Going Green in a Practical, Economic and Aesthetic Manner

Bardessono-BathtubFor Bardessono Inn and Spa, being a green hotel is a conscious choice that does not interfere with the commitment to providing a fully luxurious guest experience.

The hotel, designed to achieve the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design’s (LEED) Platinum certification, the highest standard for environmental design, strives to be as transparent as possible in communicating its environmental initiatives.

“Along with many around the world my concern over global warming and environmental degradation has continued to grow. I have become increasingly frustrated with the failure of American leadership on these issues. Fortunately, in the absence of federal leadership, some state governments, including California’s, and private individuals and companies are stepping forward with product development, regulation and incentives to reduce environmental damage. I decided that my next hotel would be a model for current practical actions of environmental stewardship. At the same time I was committed to providing an exceptional guest experience and to making sure the project was a financial success. Thus, the mission for the Bardessono was established.” – Phil Sherburne, Developer, Bardessono Inn and Spa

“By minimizing impacts of construction and design and integrating the most advanced environmental technologies, we charted an aggressive environmental course. Some of the initiatives are not obvious at first glance. An underground geothermal system heats and cools the guest rooms, the spa, and the domestic hot water supply. Almost no off-site energy is used. Hidden on the flat rooftops are 940 solar panels that provide significant amounts of the hotel’s electrical demand. Occupancy sensors in guest rooms automatically decrease energy consumption when guests are not in their rooms.” (Bardessono Environmental Initiatives)
