The San Diego Union Tribune reported this week that Afghanistan is home to some of the largest mineral deposits in the world. These were previously undiscovered prior to the U.S. invasion. I think we'll see a lot of wealth being created as these minerals are brought to the market for sale. Hopefully the proceeds will be used to build homes, schools, and infrastructure for the Afghan people. It would be nice to travel to Afghanistan again when the violence subsides.

I have heard about Afghanistan only related to war and bloodshed, insurgents and explosive devices. I have never heard about the peaceful and development sides of Afghanistan. Thanks for your wonderful post.

I loved the Buddha I recently visited. Polonnawura Buddhist statue is 46 feet long. The statue is reclined, depicting his moments of nirvana has glorious Sinhalese art in rock carvings. Buddha is lying on one side with one hand beneath his head & serene smile on his face. The details of posture, sun wheel emblem & his last few moments are really powerful.
